About the position

Ahold Delhaize USA is seeking a Data Architect to join their team in Salisbury, NC. This position is integral to the Data Product teams, focusing on all aspects of data ingestion, engineering, design, modeling, and machine learning. The Data Architect will guide engineers and analytics teams to ensure high-quality data products are produced and that the best decisions are made throughout the data lifecycle. The role emphasizes data modeling, including business, logical, and physical models, and involves the identification, design, definition, transfer, and access of data. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of collaborating with diverse stakeholders to plan, design, deploy, and maintain both cloud and on-premises data solutions. The Data Architect will lead the analysis, design, and implementation of comprehensive business data products, ensuring that results can be expanded to address various business domains. They will embed with feature teams during the early design phases to consult on data and systems architecture, ensuring consistency in system and data models. The role requires accountability for design and compliance decisions, adherence to data architecture guidelines, and documentation of data models and schemas into governance systems. Additionally, the Data Architect will participate in defining standards for data quality and creating validation plans, empowering Data Product Squads to adopt better design practices through automated quality engineering. This position also involves collaboration with Data Science teams to enhance machine learning platforms and working with Solution Architects to design data products that meet organizational needs. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, enabling them to manage, coach, and motivate a team of Data, API, and Quality Engineers while fostering a collaborative environment across multiple Data Product Squads.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis, design, and implementation of comprehensive business data products.
  • Embed with feature teams during early design phases to consult on data and systems architecture.
  • Plan, participate, design, review, and structure data design review sessions.
  • Ensure all key design and compliance decisions are reviewed and approved before implementation.
  • Maintain adherence to proper data design and security for new cloud data platforms and products.
  • Document data models and schemas into governance systems.
  • Develop canonical models for APIs, Event Streams, and Data as a Service.
  • Define standards for data quality and create data test and validation plans.
  • Empower Data Product Squads to follow better design paths with automated quality engineering.
  • Represent data products in the creation of enterprise data models and corporate data standards.
  • Stay updated on relevant technologies and trends to ensure the use of best practices in data-centric techniques and tools.
  • Manage, coach, develop, and motivate a team of Data, API, and Quality Engineers.
  • Collaborate with Data Science teams to enhance machine learning platforms.
  • Work with Solution Architects to design data products that meet organizational needs.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 8 or more years of equivalent experience in relevant technology fields.
  • 5 or more years of experience in an advanced role or technical capacity, leading teams directly or indirectly.
  • 5 or more years of experience guiding, training, or onboarding team members in relevant technologies.
  • Experience designing and solutioning modern data platforms and solutions.
  • Strong experience creating data architecture and data models using tools like ER Studio and ERWIN.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based platforms like Azure Data Stack.
  • Customer-focused and solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Hands-on experience with data streaming technologies like Kafka.
  • Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with ETL tools, Databricks, SQL, SSAS, and T-SQL.
  • Experience with large-scale design, implementation, and operations of OLTP, OLAP, DW, NoSQL, and big data storage technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Post graduate degree or advanced training in relevant fields.
  • 5 or more years of experience in Agile teams and Product/Platform based operating models.
  • 5 or more years of experience in leading teams or advancing technical capability in teams.
  • Experience in retail or grocery sectors.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks.
  • Cloud Solution Architect or equivalent certification.
