About the position

The Data Architect at Northern Trust is responsible for architecting, designing, and developing Master Data Management (MDM) solutions. This role involves managing large volumes of data related to Northern Parties and providing a standardized business vocabulary that aligns with enterprise strategy. The Data Architect will also outline high-level integrated designs to meet strategic requirements and ensure data quality and consistency across the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Apply data management and architecture expertise in developing solution architecture and advanced analytics solution design, including reporting technology.
  • Articulate tradeoffs, strengths, and weaknesses of various architectures and their components to determine the best design given use cases and constraints.
  • Identify internal and external data sources for potential integration into the platform; lead data migration and integration projects.
  • Create appropriate standards and processes to ensure quality and consistency of data in the platform.
  • Outline best practices and establish standards for data strategy, data lifecycle, data ownership, data definition, and data classification.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and advanced analytics business partners to understand business needs and to identify and define advanced analytics solutions.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in data architecture and management.
  • Hands-on development experience implementing MDM solutions using IBM MDM Advanced/Standard Edition v11.x, v12.x.
  • Customization of IBM Physical MDM including extensions, behavior extensions, notifications, and event handling.
  • Strong experience in suspect duplicate processing and survivorship rules.
  • Sound understanding of IBM Physical MDM concepts, data models (Party/Contract), and services/transactions.
  • Experience in configuring probabilistic matching engine (PME) and tuning algorithms.
  • Strong skills in Core Java and SQL/PLSQL.
  • Comfortable with Unix scripting and commands.
  • Excellent customer interaction and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with offshore teams as a coordinator.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of the investment management business and multiple asset classes.
  • Familiarity with client and regulatory reporting.
  • Experience with investment/financial technology systems within a large-scale asset management setting.
