About the position

Global Alliant Inc. is seeking a skilled Data Architect/Engineer to join our team in Annapolis, MD. This position is hybrid, requiring three days onsite and two days remote work. The role is expected to last for one year, with the possibility of a four-year extension, not exceeding 2,040 hours per year. Candidates must be prepared for in-person interviews and will be required to take a written exam to assess their technical expertise. Additionally, selected candidates will undergo a background check and fingerprinting prior to starting the position. The Data Architect/Engineer will play a crucial role in the design, creation, and specification of data warehouse (DW) and extract, transform, load (ETL) processes. This involves collaborating with both business and technology stakeholders to ensure the effective development and utilization of data warehouse architecture. The ideal candidate will possess strong database and analytical skills, with the ability to query source data effectively. Knowledge and experience with ETL tools, Visual Studio, and the handling of Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Structured Query Language (SQL) are essential. In this role, you will also be expected to demonstrate proficiency in scripting languages, particularly Python, to automate repetitive tasks within the Azure environment. Strong analytical, consultative, and communication skills are necessary, as you will be working closely with both technical and business personnel. Experience with business intelligence (BI) best practices, relational structures, and dimensional data modeling is highly valued. Familiarity with advanced technologies such as SQL Server 2016 or above, Azure Data Factory, SSIS, and stored procedures is also required. The successful candidate will have a high proficiency in dimensional modeling techniques and their applications within Azure's architecture to structure optimized data workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all aspects of data warehouse (DW) and ETL process design, creation, and specification for components.
  • Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to ensure effective data warehouse architecture development and utilization.
  • Query source data and perform data analysis as required.
  • Utilize ETL tools and Visual Studio for data processing tasks.
  • Handle and reconstruct Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Structured Query Language (SQL) data.
  • Automate repetitive tasks using scripting languages, particularly Python, within the Azure environment.
  • Implement BI best practices and dimensional data modeling techniques.
  • Design and maintain dimensional models, including STAR and Snowflake schemas, and manage slowly changing dimensions.

Requirements
