About the position

The Vanguard 2.2.1 contract currently has an opening for a Data Architect/Scientist to support the Department of State (DoS) Bureau of Diplomatic Technology Data Analytics and Assessment team. This program develops leading-edge technologies and delivers innovative solutions to the DoS. SAIC is seeking a highly qualified Data Architect/Scientist to support various initiatives including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and the consolidation and centralized data lake for various Splunk platforms, IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS initiatives within the Amazon, Google, and Microsoft cloud environments. The preferred candidate will develop solutions utilizing quantitative analysis, predictive analytics, data modeling, data lake design, and machine learning in support of the DoS mission. This role is primarily remote, but the associate may be required to report onsite on an as-needed basis.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Technology Data Analytics and Assessment team.
  • Develop leading-edge technologies and deliver innovative solutions to the DoS.
  • Utilize quantitative analysis, predictive analytics, data modeling, and machine learning to support various initiatives.
  • Design and implement a centralized data lake for various Splunk platforms.
  • Work with IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS initiatives within major cloud environments (Amazon, Google, Microsoft).
  • Apply Database Design, Data Lake, and Data Mining principles within virtual, cloud, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Collaborate with teams using Agile, Scrum, and DevOps processes.
  • Integrate customer vision/mission with emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus eighteen (18) years of related IT, Data Architect, and/or systems engineering experience, or Master's degree plus sixteen (16) years of experience.
  • Experience in applying Database Design, Data Lake, and Data Mining principles within virtual, cloud, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with Big Data Architecture (Hadoop, Cloudera, Spark), distributed systems, and data warehousing (e.g., Apache Hive).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Software as a Service within at least one of the three major cloud providers (Amazon, Google, or Microsoft).
  • Strong technical skills in MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as XML, JavaScript, and Python.
  • Strong development, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with Splunk and Tableau.
  • Experience with data modeling, predictive analytics, quantitative analysis, data lake design, and machine learning.
  • Experience with database security hardening processes in a Government environment.
  • Experience with shell scripting.
  • Proficient working within Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud security best practices.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of additional programming languages such as R or Scala.
