About the position

As a Data Architect at Spencer's, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing data warehouses, data lakes, and Lakehouse architectures that align with our business operations and organizational data strategy. Your expertise will be crucial in migrating our old data warehouse to a modern data architecture, ensuring that our data systems are robust, scalable, and efficient. You will be responsible for designing data integration processes, including data mapping and transformation, to facilitate the seamless integration of data from various sources for use across different applications within the organization. In addition to technical design, you will also be tasked with developing the data governance architecture to support our data governance initiatives. This includes collaborating with business users to understand their requirements, addressing data issues, and providing necessary training and support. You will work closely with business analysts and data engineers to identify data requirements and design data models that effectively meet the needs of the organization. Your role will also involve implementing data security best practices to safeguard our data assets. You will collaborate with IT teams to optimize data storage and processing systems for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Furthermore, you will design and implement data architectures that support machine learning, GenAI, and advanced analytics use cases, staying informed of emerging data technologies and recommending solutions for enterprise adoption.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement data warehouses, data lakes, and Lakehouse architectures to support business operations.
  • Participate in a project to migrate old data warehouse to a modern data architecture.
  • Design data integration processes, including data mapping and transformation.
  • Design the data governance architecture to support data governance initiatives.
  • Collaborate with business users to understand requirements and provide training and support.
  • Work with business analysts and data engineers to identify data requirements and design data models.
  • Implement data security best practices and appropriate safeguards.
  • Optimize data storage and processing systems for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Design and implement data architectures that support machine learning and advanced analytics use cases.
  • Stay informed of emerging data technologies and recommend solutions for enterprise adoption.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in data architecture, data modeling, data warehouse, data lake, and lakehouse.
  • Expertise in logical and physical data modeling techniques with hands-on experience in design tools such as Erwin.
  • Deep understanding of relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) databases with implementation experience in technologies like Databricks, Snowflake, and Azure Synapse.
  • Experience with Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, data lakes, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with data integration tools and processes for data movement like Azure Data Factory or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices.
  • Understanding of data security principles and encryption techniques.
  • Experience with analytics tools like Power BI and MicroStrategy.
  • Proficiency in SQL and potentially scripting languages (Python) for automation.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills to guide junior team members.
  • Ability to analyze data requirements and design optimal solutions.
  • Skills to troubleshoot and resolve data management challenges.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge/experience with AI/ML architecture is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with the retail industry is a plus.
