About the position

The Data Architect role at Codeworks is a 6-month contract-to-hire position with a financial services company, focusing on developing data strategies and architectures to support the Data & Analytics organization. This position requires a hybrid work model in Milwaukee and involves collaborating with business partners to implement data solutions that drive business insights and competitive advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies and architectures to support the Data & Analytics organization.
  • Lead architectural design and strategy discussions.
  • Research and proof of concept (POC) new technologies for business use cases.
  • Introduce and drive new technologies to support business outcomes.
  • Articulate pros and cons of architectural design options and provide recommendations.
  • Demonstrate competence in data management concepts, data warehousing, data integration, BI, and analytics.
  • Lead and mentor Data & Analytics team members in creating solid data solutions.
  • Create high-level architectures of new data environments.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to IT and business team members.
  • Develop best practices and communicate them to teams to implement quality solutions.
  • Work with the Data & Analytics team to complete high-value deliverables identified by business partners.
  • Understand the data integration needs of the business community and the problems faced by users.
  • Seek out and apply new technologies and skills through continuous learning.
  • Specialize in data modeling, including 3NF and dimensional modeling.
  • Collaborate with Business Unit Data SMEs to understand Data & Analytics goals.
  • Review and support the development of source to target mappings and transformation logic.
  • Implement and verify end-to-end data solutions.
  • Develop test plans and participate in validation testing and user acceptance testing.

Requirements

  • Approximately 10-15 years of experience in Data Solution delivery in a complex environment.
  • Proficient in Business Intelligence tools such as Alteryx and Microsoft tools (SQL Server Management Studio, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, Power Pivot, Power Query, PowerBI).
  • Experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, and Azure Synapse.
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling tools like ER/Studio Data Architect and experience in 3NF and dimensional modeling.
  • Experience with data integration tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Synapse Pipelines.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts (Inmon, Kimball, Data Lake, Data Lakehouse).
  • Knowledge of data integration concepts and strategies (EII, ETL, EL-T, SOA, EAI).
  • Experience in data management and quality practices, including data mapping, profiling, and governance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data formats such as CSV, pipe-delimited, JSON, XML, and Parquet.
