About the position

The Data Architect at STERIS is a senior-level role responsible for leading data engineering activities and overseeing the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of scalable data solutions. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to support business needs in analytical and data solutions, ensuring data quality, security, and compliance. The Data Architect also provides technical leadership and mentorship to the data engineering team, optimizing data processing efforts and managing data integration pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Define, plan, design, and support implementation of enterprise data architectures and platforms.
  • Plan and lead data engineering activities for strategic, large, and complex programs.
  • Lead the selection and development of data engineering methods, tools, and techniques.
  • Plan technical transitions between development, testing, and production phases of solutions' lifecycle.
  • Develop organizational policies, standards, and guidelines for the development and secure operation of data services and products.
  • Coordinate the application of analysis, design, and modelling techniques to establish, modify or maintain data structures.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams, business community, data scientists, and architects to meet business requirements.
  • Set standards for data modelling and design tools and techniques, ensuring compliance.
  • Manage the investigation of enterprise data requirements based on a detailed understanding of information needs.
  • Ensure that data is reliable, secure, and timely, implementing data privacy and best practices.
  • Plan, design, develop, and facilitate training and Data Literacy initiatives within the team and end-user community.
  • Ensure standards and best practices in documentation of Metadata, Data Engineering processes, and Architectures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Analytics, or a related field.
  • 7 years' experience in development, maintenance, and enhancement of Data Pipelines (ETL/ELT) and processes.
  • 7 years' experience in developing complex SQL queries and SQL optimization.
  • 7 years' full Life Cycle experience in Business Intelligence/Data Warehousing Architecture.
  • 5 years' experience in designing and implementing data security.
  • 7 years' experience in monitoring and optimizing data storage and processing.
  • 2 years' experience in delivering Data Solutions using Cloud Technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data ingestion tools such as Fivetran, Stitch, or Matillion.
  • Familiarity with big data frameworks such as Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark.
  • Experience building and deploying machine learning models in production.
