About the position

Sonata Software is seeking a Data Architect to join our team in Princeton, NJ, on a contract basis for a duration of 7+ months. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing data architectures on cloud platforms, with a strong preference for Azure. You will collaborate closely with clinical research, IT, and business stakeholders to understand their data needs for clinical trials and CRO partnerships. Your expertise will be crucial in designing and developing a scalable and secure data architecture on Microsoft Azure, utilizing services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Azure SQL Database. Additionally, you will be tasked with designing and implementing data governance policies and procedures to ensure secure access and management of clinical trial data. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data modeling concepts, including dimensional and relational models, and possess expertise in Azure data services. Proficiency in writing SQL queries and scripting languages, such as T-SQL and Python, is essential. You should also have a solid understanding of data security principles and best practices, as well as experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates or Bicep. Strong communication and collaboration skills are necessary to effectively translate business requirements into technical solutions. This position requires a life sciences or clinical research background, with a minimum of 12 years of proven experience in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clinical research, IT, and business stakeholders to understand data needs for clinical trials and CRO partnerships.
  • Design and develop a scalable and secure data architecture on Microsoft Azure, utilizing services like Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Azure SQL Database.
  • Design and implement data governance policies and procedures for secure access and management of clinical trial data.
  • Develop and maintain data models, ensuring they meet business requirements and data governance standards.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries and scripts to support data processing and analysis.
  • Implement best practices for data security and compliance in accordance with industry standards.
  • Utilize infrastructure as code (IaC) tools to automate deployment and management of data architecture.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of proven experience designing, developing, and implementing data architectures on cloud platforms (preferably Azure) for a CRO or similar Life Sciences Company.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts (dimensional, relational, etc.).
  • Expertise in Azure data services, including Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Data Factory.
  • Proficiency in writing SQL queries and scripting languages (e.g., T-SQL, Python).
  • Excellent understanding of data security principles and best practices.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates or Bicep.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data governance frameworks and tools.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and AI concepts as they relate to data architecture.
  • Knowledge of additional cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud.
