About the position

Help change the world and improve the lives of North Dakota citizens by supporting the North Dakota Information Technology (NDIT) Team as a Data Architect. As our Data Architect, you will work closely with the NDIT Chief Data Officer (CDO) and be responsible for the overall design and implementation of the State's enterprise data architecture. The role ensures that data is accessible, secure, and supports the diverse needs of state agencies, while aligning with broader statewide goals and requirements. The individual will act as the primary advocate for data modeling methodologies and data processing best practices.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable enterprise and Agency data architectures, data models, databases, data lakes, and data warehouses.
• Maintain comprehensive data architectural and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with the Enterprise Architecture team, Modern Data Platform Architect, and other technical stakeholders to plan strategic data direction and define the data management strategy.
• Establish, manage, and promote data standards, policies, and best practices for the operation of technical data solutions across the State.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to cross-functional teams on data design, ingestion, transformation, movement, and integration.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Minimum of five years of experience in data architecture design. Candidates must show proven experience implementing enterprise data architecture models, frameworks, and system integration solutions.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience supporting business strategy with data architecture.
• Knowledge of emerging data technologies and trends in the industry.
• Previous proven Data Architecture experience to include contributing to and/or progressing the following: Enterprise Data Modeling, Information Architecture Modeling, Meta Data and Document Practices, Data Virtualization, Data Streaming, Operational Data Store, Data Warehouse, Data Management.
