About the position

The Database Administrator at Swift Transportation is responsible for providing technical support for the database environment, overseeing the development and organization of databases, and implementing new technologies. This role involves translating business requirements into database designs, optimizing database performance, and collaborating with developers to ensure efficient database operations. The position plays a crucial role in aligning database technology with business objectives and maintaining the integrity of the database systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for the database environment.
  • Oversee the development and organization of databases.
  • Assess and implement new technologies related to database management.
  • Translate business requirements into transactional database schema designs.
  • Maintain system level entity relationship diagrams.
  • Verify compatibility of database tools and application software with existing architectures.
  • Maintain metadata and administer development and staging environments.
  • Optimize physical database design for specific Database Management Systems (DBMS).
  • Approve schema changes and SQL code.
  • Code and install changes to the database schema and stored procedures.
  • Consult developers on performance and optimizing SQL scripts.
  • Develop and execute procedures to validate changes to the database infrastructure.
  • Prepare required documentation and participate in change control processes.
  • Work with production database administrators to migrate changes to production.
  • Model, define, create, and maintain database resources.
  • Review and test new technologies and architectures.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in data analysis, database administration, or database replication in a high volume multi-platform transactional environment.
  • Experience with data warehousing technologies preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience required.
  • Conceptual knowledge of project management techniques.
  • Solid technical skills with the ability to research and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
