About the position

Medical Mutual is seeking a DataBricks Administrator to join our IT Infrastructure team. Founded in 1934, we are the oldest and one of the largest health insurance companies in Ohio, providing peace of mind to over 1.6 million Ohioans through our comprehensive health, life, disability, dental, vision, and indemnity plans. In this role, the DataBricks Administrator will be responsible for the design and development of the company's data lake, data warehouse, and data marts. This position involves creating and managing data integration pipelines, ensuring data quality, and supporting the applied use of data for business insights. The successful candidate will work closely with various stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide solutions that enable effective data analysis and reporting. The DataBricks Administrator will also be tasked with profiling data, developing data transformation jobs, and designing data models that represent information accurately. This role requires a strong understanding of database technologies, programming languages, and data warehouse theory. The ideal candidate will have experience with public cloud database technologies such as RedShift, SnowFlake, DataBricks, Azure Synapse, and BigQuery, as well as proficiency in Python programming. Responsibilities

  • Develop data pipelines to integrate and transform data for analysis
  • Support other data users and enable applied use of data to solve business problems
  • Conduct business meetings to understand data and business needs, socialize knowledge of data products and insights, and generate consensus
  • Perform data profiling, documentation, and enforce data quality
  • Develop data models to represent information
  • Learn new technical concepts and software languages as needed
  • Support analytic projects, data extracts, and other work to apply data in the warehouse
  • Test and prove capabilities, evaluate usability, and perform demonstrations to other analysts
  • Measure data quality with manual verification and develop automated data quality tests
  • Lead and coordinate technical initiatives as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a business degree with a focus on data transformation or analysis, or equivalent work experience
  • Basic understanding of programming design and coding techniques
  • Familiarity with systems development life cycle
  • Understanding of database technologies and query semantics
  • Experience with public cloud database technology (e.g., RedShift, SnowFlake, DataBricks, Azure Synapse, BigQuery)
  • Experience programming in ETL or ELT technology
  • Understanding of data warehouse data model theory and techniques
  • Experience with Python programming language
  • Two or more years of professional experience developing software to solve business problems (for Data Engineer II)
  • Four or more years of professional experience developing software to solve business problems (for Data Engineer III)
  • Seven or more years of professional experience developing software to solve business problems (for Data Engineer IV and V)
