About the position

The Data & Business Intelligence Analyst at Penn National Insurance plays a crucial role in the Information Technology department, specifically within the Enterprise Data Warehouse team. This hybrid position focuses on supporting data collection, manipulation, reporting, and analysis to enhance decision-making processes across various departments. The analyst will engage in predictive modeling, data quality analysis, and collaboration with multiple teams to ensure efficient data usage and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update data including extracts, queries, aggregates, and snapshots.
  • Extract data for ad hoc predictive modeling projects.
  • Identify and recommend internal and external data for modeling and decision making.
  • Provide data and analysis for ad hoc projects as directed.
  • Create and update systems documentation including business or systems requirements, change requests, and report layouts.
  • Develop and deliver system training courses for corporate and service office business clients.
  • Support data needs of various departments including Commercial Lines, Personal Lines, Claims, IT, Actuarial, Finance, Statistics, Customer Experience, and Field Operations.
  • Collaborate with staff to solve problems and suggest efficient processes.
  • Assist the Enterprise Data Warehouse team with metadata and ad hoc data extracts.
  • Test data extracts, queries, aggregates, and snapshots.
  • Estimate, plan, lead, organize, control, and report status for small-to-medium sized projects.
  • Support modelers with data needs in large modeling projects and smaller ad hoc projects.
  • Analyze data quality and recommend improvements.
  • Act as a liaison between business and IT personnel.
  • Design and program ad hoc business intelligence solutions.
  • Identify problems that data analytics might help solve and opportunities to use data analytics for decision making.
  • Compile, manipulate, synthesize, validate, and analyze data.
  • Effectively communicate analytics results graphically and via narrative.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years professional statistical or analytical experience, preferably in property and casualty insurance.
  • Programming skills in SQL or other data management/analysis applications like Microsoft Access.
  • Experience designing reports for end-users is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the property/casualty insurance industry and operations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of data warehousing and Penn National's Enterprise Data Warehouse.
  • Excellent PC skills, especially in Access, Excel, Pivot Tables, Power Pivot, and SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with Data Warehouse concepts and database querying languages.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with predictive analytics and statistics.
  • Familiarity with business object-oriented databases and XML.
