About the position

The Data Center and Network Hands & Eyes Engineer position at SpliceGroup USA involves providing essential hands-on support for data center operations in Philadelphia. The role includes responsibilities such as cable patching, hardware management, and incident response, ensuring the smooth functioning of data center activities while adhering to established protocols and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Complete any duty and requirements of the hands & eyes activities listed below
  • Cable Patching & Connectivity as directed by Project Managers (PMs) and equipment owners
  • Racking & Stacking DC Hardware as directed by PMs and service leads
  • Manage and complete DC Installs & project activities
  • Perform physical reboots of devices as directed by equipment owners and incident command teams
  • Check for hardware alarms (failure lights)
  • Check for console error messages
  • Investigate and resolve physical network faults and hardware issues
  • Load tape or CD media into the device to perform a recovery of a server
  • Complete hard drive swaps and installs on request
  • Complete all necessary logs to record Hands and Eyes activities
  • Professionally communicate and host customer contacts within the DC
  • Follow all required DC processes & change management protocols
  • Respond to incidents quickly and efficiently using approved procedures
  • Re-patch devices if & when required
  • Respond to any ad-hoc, low level skill task which is scripted/documented/in writing
  • Alert Management to actual and or potential Service problems in the DC's
  • Complete ad hoc activities within the DC's at client's request
  • Conform with department procedures and SLAs
  • Complete tasks to specified standards as set by the Client
  • Update Data Center Infrastructure Management software (Cormant Database)
  • Provide 24 x 7 Break fix on-call DC support cover on rotation basis
  • Respond to requests from email, ServiceNow & by mobile phone

Requirements

  • Experience in data center operations and support
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to hardware management
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with clients and team members
  • Familiarity with data center processes and change management protocols
  • Ability to respond to incidents and troubleshoot hardware issues

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Data Center Infrastructure Management software
  • Knowledge of network fault investigation techniques
  • Familiarity with incident management systems like ServiceNow
