The Data Center Break-Fix Technician role is a critical position within our organization, located at 100 Share Way NW, Altoona, IA 50009. This contract position requires a skilled technician with 3-6 years of IT network experience, particularly in a data center environment. The technician will be responsible for physically troubleshooting various network components within the network infrastructure, including routers, switches, console servers, and optical transport equipment. This role demands a hands-on approach to replace optics, line cards, supervisor cards, and chassis hardware as needed. The technician will provide onsite network support and expertise for all teams at the local data center, acting as a liaison for remote networking teams. Responsibilities include troubleshooting network link, device, and configuration issues, isolating problems, and implementing solutions. The technician will also create new RMA requests through OEM vendors for replacement devices and obtain technical assistance when troubleshooting devices. Maintaining and updating the asset inventory of defective and replacement parts is essential, as is tracing and isolating cables through patch panels. In addition to these responsibilities, the technician will schedule and perform network maintenance, repair, and upgrade tasks while minimizing the impact on the production network. Utilizing internal automation software, tools, and scripts to configure, monitor, and repair network equipment is also a key aspect of this role. The technician will work closely with cross-functional teams, including facilities, cabling, and server teams, and will perform queue management for alarms, tasks, and incidents while participating in ongoing deployment projects. A strong working knowledge of Linux OS, CLI navigation, JUNOS, Cisco IOS, and bash is required. Physical audits of inventory and updating the asset inventory database will also be part of the job. The position requires the ability to provide onsite support after business hours as part of the on-call schedule and may involve travel to various sites as needed. The job entails significant physical demands, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
