About the position

The Data Center Cable Technician I is responsible for handling low voltage cabling, specifically CAT5 and CAT6, within a data center environment. This role involves installing and terminating cables, adhering to safety and quality standards, and completing necessary documentation. The technician will work on various tasks including building closets, performing fire-stopping procedures, and ensuring proper cable management. This position is suitable for individuals with little to no experience in the structured cabling industry, providing an opportunity to learn and grow within a technical team.

Responsibilities

• Install work area outlets for various setups including floor, modular furniture, and wall.
• Drop cable down walls using fish tape or other methods and route cable through modular furniture.
• Perform pre-termination procedures including organizing, forming, dressing cables, and determining lengths and slack.
• Suspend and support cable using appropriate methods such as cable trays and J-hooks.
• Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross connects, racks, and patch panels.
• Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cables as required.
• Perform fire-stopping procedures on fire walls and install sleeves for cable.
• Terminate low-voltage devices as needed.
• Complete all company paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets and work orders.
• Adhere to company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalency.
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
• Basic construction industry knowledge preferred.
• Ability to effectively use hand tools.

• Experience with CCTV, Residential, Troubleshooting, Wireless, Access Systems, Life Systems.
