About the position

As a Chief Engineer (CE) at AWS, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and operating our critical infrastructure systems within some of the world's most sophisticated data centers. You will be part of a team that is dedicated to ensuring that our facilities are prepared to handle any situation that may arise. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the operation and management of both routine and emergency services across a variety of critical systems, including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, and computer room air handlers. You will act as the primary escalation point for all facilities-related issues, ensuring that all safety procedures are adhered to by both vendor and Amazon staff. In this role, you will perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot facilities within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA). You will also provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians, working closely with the Facility Manager to foster a positive team culture. Your expertise will be essential in creating and deploying new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams. Additionally, you may assist in the build-out of new facilities and contribute to projects aimed at increasing the efficiency of current facilities. Your day-to-day tasks will involve communicating complex technical information to a non-technical audience, coordinating projects with IT managers and other business leaders, and establishing building performance benchmarks. You will utilize tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook to perform administrative tasks. The role requires a willingness to work outside of normal business hours for routine maintenance and to respond to out-of-hours emergency calls. You will be responsible for managing projects from conception to completion, collaborating with external support groups, and documenting project results for future implementation at other facilities. At AWS, we pride ourselves on our inclusive culture that welcomes diverse experiences and empowers employees to take ownership of their work. We are committed to continuous learning and mentorship, providing resources to help you grow as a professional while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Join us in our mission to keep the cloud running and support our customers with the highest standards of safety and security.
