About the position

As a Data Center Controls Engineer at Google Cloud, you will play a pivotal role in the design and implementation of control systems that are essential for the operation of our data centers. Your work will involve collaborating with a team of engineers to develop cutting-edge strategies that enhance the efficiency and sustainability of our facilities. You will be responsible for optimizing the physical design of our data centers, ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards, and driving infrastructure improvements. Your technical expertise will be crucial in areas such as cooling and electrical systems, where you will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and provide guidance to partner teams during deployment. In this role, you will also be tasked with remediating security vulnerabilities at various levels, including the operating system, firmware, and application level for Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure. You will automate the qualification and remediation of security vulnerabilities, develop comprehensive vulnerability remediation playbooks, and maintain the OT lab environment to support security initiatives. Your ability to generate innovative ideas and communicate recommendations to senior-level executives will be key to driving implementation alongside facilities technicians. The Data Center Engineering team is at the forefront of technological advancement, and you will be part of a dynamic environment that encourages experimentation and continuous improvement. Responsibilities

  • Design and implement control systems for data center operations.
  • Remediate security vulnerabilities at the OS, firmware, and application levels for OT infrastructure.
  • Automate security vulnerability qualification and remediation processes.
  • Develop data center vulnerability remediation playbooks for control system designs.
  • Configure and maintain the OT lab environment to support OT security work.
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards in data center operations.
  • Drive infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in cooling and electrical systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience designing and implementing controls systems and controls modeling.
  • 3 years of experience in Programming/Scripting using Python, Java, or a similar language.
  • 3 years of experience in an Operational Technology infrastructure cybersecurity role.
  • 2 years of experience with Data Center infrastructure, mission critical and industrial control systems (e.g., PLC, relays, IED, etc.).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Security, or a related technical field.
  • Excellent understanding of industry-standard electrical and mechanical systems used in data centers, as well as controls/monitoring systems.
