About the position

The Data Center Critical Facilities Technician at Amazon Data Services, Inc. plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational integrity of AWS data centers. This position is responsible for the hands-on troubleshooting and operation of various electrical and mechanical equipment, including standby diesel generators, switchboards, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, and building automation systems. Technicians are expected to provide 24/7 shift coverage, which may include 12-hour rotating shifts across 3, 4, or 5-day work weeks. The role requires a current active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above, and the selected candidate must maintain this clearance throughout their employment. In this position, you will be part of a diverse team that collaborates across various disciplines, including software, hardware, and network engineering, supply chain management, and security operations. The team is dedicated to delivering the highest standards of safety and security while ensuring that AWS customers have continuous access to the cloud services they rely on. The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring technicians to adapt to various challenges and contribute to innovative solutions that reduce operational costs while maintaining high service levels. As a front-line responder, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining critical mechanical and electrical systems, troubleshooting facility and rack-level events, and performing limited maintenance tasks. You will also be involved in root cause analysis of equipment failures and ensuring compliance with safety procedures. The role demands physical stamina, as technicians will need to walk job sites, work in extreme climates, and lift or move heavy objects as part of their daily responsibilities. Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, including emergency generators and fire/life safety systems within the data center.
  • Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within internal SLAs.
  • Perform limited maintenance tasks such as filter changes, HVAC PMs, and rack power installations.
  • Provide support to Data Center Operations technicians.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety procedures while performing work.
  • Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds and log taking.
  • Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows and spare part inventory.
  • Supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance.
  • Respond to off-hour emergency calls per on-call rotation for any of the region's sites.
  • Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies.
  • Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of electrical or mechanical experience, or 1+ years of data center or mission-critical facilities experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above.
  • 4+ years of data center engineering experience (preferred).
  • Electrical or mechanical journeyman license (preferred).
  • NFPA 70E Certification (preferred).
  • CFC license (Universal or minimum Type II) (preferred).
