About the position

The Data Center Engineering Operations Technician (EOT) at Amazon plays a crucial role as the front line responders for hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation within the data center environment. This position involves working with a variety of equipment, including stand-by diesel generators, switchboards/switchgears, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems. The EOT is responsible for ensuring the operational integrity of these systems, providing 24/7 shift coverage that may include 12-hour shifts, rotating shifts, and varying work weeks of 3, 4, or 5 days. The selected candidate must be a US Citizen and hold an active Top Secret security clearance. Key responsibilities include operating and maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment, troubleshooting facility and rack-level events, performing limited maintenance tasks, and providing support to Data Center Operations technicians. The technician will also conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures, ensure adherence to safety procedures, and take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment. Additionally, the role requires the use of internal CMMS to manage workflows and spare part inventory, supervising contractors, and responding to off-hour emergency calls as part of an on-call rotation. The work environment can be physically demanding, requiring the ability to walk on uneven terrain, work in extreme climates, and perform tasks at heights. The technician must also be able to lift and move heavy objects, bend or twist into unusual positions, and work in noisy environments. This position is integral to maintaining the high standards of safety and security that AWS is known for, while also driving innovation and reducing operational costs in the facilities.
