About the position

The Controlling Energy Marshal is an assurance role focused on ensuring that the Energy Isolation program implemented by vendors and contractors meets or exceeds the safety policy requirements set by the company. This position involves establishing and managing assurance processes, participating in planning meetings, and acting as a subject matter expert in energy isolation incident investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure vendors' and contractors' Energy Isolation Program meets safety policy requirements.
  • Utilize SPS-101 Energy Isolation SPS and Guidebook as the foundation for the Energy Isolation Program.
  • Establish and manage an Energy Isolation assurance process and close gaps identified in audits.
  • Participate in High Risk Activity (HRA) planning meetings related to Energy Isolation.
  • Ensure approval process for proposed Energy Isolation procedures is in place.
  • Work with the Authorizing Energy Marshal to establish an Energy Isolation Permit process.
  • Review SoWs, MOPs, and Scripts to identify all sources of energy.
  • Determine if group or individual LOTO is required and establish a centralized LOTO process.
  • Verify qualifications, training, and PPE of personnel performing work.
  • Delegate qualified alternates during multi-shift and peak energization times.
  • Liaise with Operations regarding energy isolation activities impacting datacenter operations.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in Energy Isolation incident investigations.
  • Serve as an independent authority to stop unsafe work practices regarding Energy Isolation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 years of experience in DC construction and commissioning standards and practices.
  • Proven ability to interact with teams and implement improvements.
  • Good communication skills for conveying complex technical solutions to engineers and non-engineers.
  • Ability to audit site practices against written standards.
  • Strong ability to interpret line drawings and system redundancies for effective LOTO systems design.
  • Familiarity with multiple sources of energy in datacenters, especially electrical.
  • Desire to raise standards of excellence in construction.
  • Fundamental knowledge and technical requirements from relevant functional area.
  • Knowledge and experience in planning, prioritization, and organizational skills.
