About the position

As a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician at Amazon Data Services, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and operating the critical infrastructure systems of some of the world's most powerful data centers. This position is part of the Data Center Engineering Operations team, which is responsible for ensuring the reliability and availability of our facilities 24/7. You will work alongside teams of front-line responders, utilizing your technical skills to support the operations of these sophisticated environments. Your responsibilities will include daily monitoring of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, as well as troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within established service level agreements (SLAs). In this role, you will perform preventative maintenance (PM) and repairs on various electrical and mechanical systems, including stand-by diesel generators, UPS units, and cooling systems. You will also be involved in technical writing to support change management programs and will manage daily work requests to ensure timely resolution. The position may require you to work on-site with contractors and vendors, ensuring compliance with established practices and local legislation. The work schedule may vary based on site needs, with shifts potentially lasting up to 12 hours and rotating on a predefined schedule. Some locations may also require on-call rotations. This role may support multiple locations, providing a dynamic work environment where you can grow and learn alongside some of the brightest minds in the industry. Responsibilities

  • Daily building rounds to monitor and record information from electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment to ensure 24/7 reliability and availability
  • Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management System (EPMS)
  • Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA)
  • Perform rack installs and rack decommissioning within internal SLA
  • Perform PM, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Technical writing to support change management program
  • Monitor daily work requests and manage to resolution, and execute projects from conception to completion
  • On-site support of contractors, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation
  • Work schedule changes depending on specific site needs. Shifts can be up to 12-hours and may rotate on a predefined schedule. Some locations have on-call rotations.
  • Role may support more than one location/site.

Requirements

  • Technical (Military/Trade School) training or 2+ years of electrical or mechanical, HVAC, fire system experience in a mission-critical infrastructure or equivalent experience in a relevant industry
  • 2+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 2+ years' experience with Microsoft Office products (including Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • High school or equivalent diploma

Nice-to-haves

  • 4+ years of Data Center Engineering experience
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree
