About the position

The Data Center Engineering Operations Technician (EOT) at A9 Innovations LLC is responsible for ensuring the optimal operation of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within data centers. This role involves performing planned preventative maintenance, addressing daily corrective work, and responding to emergencies. The EOT acts as a key point of contact for facility operations, managing small-to-medium projects, and supporting engineering operations technicians and vendors in troubleshooting and maintaining critical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data center.
  • Operate independently with limited direct management.
  • Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data center, escalating to the Data Center Facility Manager as needed.
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
  • Troubleshoot and report facility and data server-level events within internal SLA.
  • Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operation Technicians, Chief Technician, and vendor support teams.
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operation Technicians.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendors and Amazon staff.
  • Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows.
  • Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies.
  • Respond to off-hour emergency calls related to data centers and assist with investigation, mitigation, and recovery of issues.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment.
  • 2+ years of experience with electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations such as generators, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units.
  • 2+ years of experience with BMS and EPMS control systems and data collection/trending.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent work experience in Mechanical/Electrical Field.
  • Electrical or Mechanical trade (Post Secondary Education).
