About the position

AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring that the cloud remains operational and accessible. As a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician, you will be part of a diverse team that includes software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. Your role will involve collaborating with various teams across AWS to uphold the highest standards of safety and security while providing extensive capacity at minimal costs for our customers. In this role, you will engage in projects of moderate complexity, assisting in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA). You will perform essential tasks such as rack installations, decommissioning, operational readings, and facility management. Additionally, you will provide key performance indicators to senior engineers and manage on-site contractors, ensuring compliance with established practices and local legislation. Monitoring the performance of maintenance and operations on all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center will be a critical part of your responsibilities. You will also ensure adherence to safety procedures while performing your work. The position requires flexibility in work schedules, with shifts potentially lasting up to 12 hours and rotating based on site needs. Some locations may also require on-call rotations. You will be responsible for maintaining the critical infrastructure equipment of the data center, ensuring an impressive 99.999% uptime for the world's largest cloud computing portfolio. The role may involve supporting multiple locations and requires physical capabilities such as walking on uneven terrain, lifting weights, and performing various construction tasks. As part of the Data Center Engineering Operations team, you will help maintain and operate critical infrastructure systems, ensuring they are prepared for any situation.

Responsibilities

  • Involved with projects of moderate complexity.
  • Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Perform rack installs, rack decommissioning, operational readings and facility management.
  • Provide key performance indicators to senior engineers.
  • Responsible for the on-site management of contractors, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation.
  • Monitor performance of maintenance and operations on all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
  • Assist with basic support concepts such as ticketing systems, root cause analysis, change management creation, writing procedures and building management systems.
  • Work schedule changes depending on specific site needs. Shifts can be up to 12-hours and may rotate on a predefined schedule. Some locations have on-call rotations.
  • Maintain data center critical infrastructure equipment ensuring 99.999% up-time of the world's largest cloud computing portfolio.
  • Role may support more than one location/site.
  • Walk job sites in uneven terrain. Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds independently and participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds.
  • Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb stairs, twist, bend, work above shoulders, grasp, carry, push and pull.

Requirements

  • Technical (Military/Trade School) training or 2+ years' of equivalent experience in a relevant industry (for example: electrical or mechanical)
  • 2+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 2+ years' experience with Microsoft Office products (including Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

Nice-to-haves

  • 4+ years of Data Center Engineering experience
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree
