About the position

As a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician at Amazon, you will be an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining and operating critical infrastructure systems within some of the world's most advanced data centers. This role is essential in ensuring that our facilities are prepared to handle any situation, thereby supporting the operations of AWS, which boasts the largest cloud computing portfolio globally. You will collaborate with a diverse group of professionals, including engineers and operations managers, to implement the latest technologies and work practices that meet the evolving demands of the market. Your daily responsibilities will include conducting building rounds to monitor and record data from various electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, ensuring that our systems maintain 24/7 reliability and availability. You will also be tasked with monitoring Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management Systems (EPMS), assisting in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events, and performing installations and decommissioning of racks within established service level agreements (SLAs). In addition to these tasks, you will engage in preventative maintenance (PM), troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and repair of both electrical and mechanical equipment. Your role will require technical writing to support the change management program, managing daily work requests, and executing projects from conception to completion. You will also provide on-site support for contractors and vendors, ensuring compliance with established practices and local legislation. The position may require flexibility in work schedules, with shifts potentially lasting up to 12 hours and rotating based on site needs. You may also be required to support multiple locations, making adaptability a key component of this role. Physical demands of the job include the ability to lift and move up to 39 pounds independently, participate in group lifts for heavier items, and perform various physical tasks while maintaining balance and safety. You will work in an environment that necessitates the use of provided ear protection and may involve climbing, bending, and other physical activities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily building rounds to monitor and record information from electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment.
  • Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management Systems (EPMS).
  • Assist in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Perform rack installations and decommissioning within internal SLA.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Engage in technical writing to support the change management program.
  • Monitor daily work requests and manage them to resolution, executing projects from conception to completion.
  • Provide on-site support for contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring compliance with established practices and local legislation.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent diploma.
  • Technical (Military/Trade School) training or 1+ years of electrical or mechanical, HVAC, fire system experience in a mission-critical infrastructure or equivalent experience in a relevant industry.
  • 1+ years of experience with Microsoft Office products (including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years of data center engineering experience.
