About the position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring that the cloud remains operational. As a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician, you will be part of a diverse team that includes software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. Your role will involve collaborating with various teams across AWS to maintain the highest standards of safety and security while providing extensive capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. You will be tasked with driving innovation and reducing operational costs within the facilities, working on complex projects, and assisting in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA). Your responsibilities will include performing rack installations and decommissioning, conducting operational readings, and managing facility operations. You will provide key performance indicators to senior engineers and oversee the management of contractors and vendors, ensuring compliance with established practices and local legislation. Additionally, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operations of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center, adhering to safety procedures at all times. The role may require you to work on-site at multiple locations, and you will need to maintain critical infrastructure equipment to ensure 99.999% uptime of AWS's cloud computing portfolio. The job may involve physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, and working in uneven terrain, and you will be expected to adapt to a flexible work schedule that may include 12-hour shifts and on-call rotations.

Responsibilities

  • Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
  • Assist in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Perform rack installs, rack decommissioning, operational readings, and facility management.
  • Provide key performance indicators to senior engineers.
  • Manage on-site contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring compliance with established practices and local legislation.
  • Oversee maintenance and operations on all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures while performing work.
  • Utilize ticketing systems, root cause analysis, change management creation, and writing procedures.
  • Maintain data center critical infrastructure equipment ensuring 99.999% uptime.
  • Support more than one location/site as needed.

Requirements

  • Technical training from Military/Trade School or 2+ years of equivalent experience in a relevant industry (e.g., electrical or mechanical).
  • 2+ years of electrical or mechanical experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in maintenance (1 year preferred).
  • Driver's License (preferred).
