About the position

The Data Center Facilities Engineer is responsible for ensuring the operational integrity, commissioning, and regulatory compliance of critical systems within data centers. This role focuses on maintaining peak efficiency and reliability of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, ensuring maximum uptime for mission-critical environments. The engineer will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and manage contractors while interacting with various stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Place SAFETY at the top of everything they do.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions of facility systems.
  • Complete planned and ad-hoc preventive maintenance work assignments.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of building systems, including HVAC and electrical distribution.
  • Rapid response to indoor emergency situations and air quality complaints.
  • Manage work orders, including initiation, follow-up, and verification of completion.
  • Monitor performance of service contractors and recommend changes as necessary.
  • Provide technical expertise for the entire data center.
  • Interface with management, contractors, and consultants for data center construction commissioning.
  • Track and complete preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
  • Analyze existing operating conditions and recommend new technologies for efficiency.
  • Manage contractors for daily operations and critical maintenance.
  • Supervise Facility Technicians in day-to-day operations and maintenance.
  • Be on-call to respond to emergency situations at the data center.

Requirements

  • Strong background in operating mechanical and electrical critical systems.
  • Ability to conduct power- and thermal system capacity assessments.
  • Excellent understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in data centers.
  • Hands-on experience with large commercial and industrial electrical systems.
  • Current knowledge of NFPA Electrical, Fire and Life Safety codes.
  • Expert knowledge in industrial safety best practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • 4-year degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in data center operations.
  • Good observation skills and problem-solving ability.
