About the position

The Facilities Technician role at Google involves operating, monitoring, and supporting the physical conditions of data centers. This position is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and safety of electrical systems, including power supply, generators, and electrical distribution. Technicians will assist in inspections, maintenance, and repairs of various systems while ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair various data center systems.
• Provide daily assistance to technicians by reading blueprints/schematics and assessing system working order.
• Manage the uptime and maintenance of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), generators, and electrical distribution systems.
• Operate, monitor, and respond to abnormal conditions in data center facilities systems and equipment.
• Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new electrical equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure.

Requirements

• Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field.
• 2 years of electrical experience in an industrial or commercial environment.
• Ability to participate in material handling tasks, lifting up to 50 lbs, and using OSHA standard safety equipment.
• Ability to work non-standard hours and work rotations/shifts.

Nice-to-haves

• 2 years of experience in maintenance of electrical distribution systems or in a construction/technical environment.
• Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.
• Knowledge of electrical systems used in a data center environment, including feeders, transformers, generators, and UPS systems.
• Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting using standard hand tools and digital metering.
• Ability to communicate effectively with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades.
