About the position

The Data Center Facilities Technician II at Google is responsible for operating, monitoring, and supporting the physical conditions of data center facilities. This role involves ensuring the efficiency and reliability of various systems, including electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems, while adhering to environmental and safety standards. The technician will also play a key role in managing performance issues and outages, contributing to the overall operational excellence of the data center.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components.
  • Provide daily assistance to technicians by reading blueprints/schematics, conducting tours of systems, and assessing their working order.
  • Manage the uptime and maintenance of water pumps and treatment systems, HVAC, UPS, generators, electrical distribution, and control and monitoring systems.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment.
  • Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Experience in operating and maintaining electrical and mechanical systems in a data center or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical distribution, and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond to emergency situations effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with generators and UPS systems.
  • Familiarity with data center operations and best practices.
  • Certifications in electrical or mechanical systems.
