About the position

The Data Center/Fiber Construction Technician will be responsible for building client ISP networks in MDU (Multi-Dwelling Unit) properties. This role involves a variety of tasks including pulling, testing, terminating, and labeling structured network cabling. The technician will also mount, connect, test, and troubleshoot network equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability. The position requires a solid understanding of both fiber optic and twisted pair copper cabling, as well as the ability to work with various network equipment and tools. In this role, the technician will support Webpass network construction efforts, which includes the installation of new equipment and the maintenance of existing equipment. The technician will leverage foundational knowledge and core abilities necessary to complete basic network construction tasks, such as installing radio mounts, pointing microwave point-to-point radios, and upgrading existing equipment. The technician will be expected to exercise solid judgment and troubleshoot connections with limited guidance, catering to both residential and commercial customers. Collaboration is key in this position, as the technician will work closely with team members to complete projects in a timely manner while maintaining the highest level of workmanship possible. Clear and effective communication is essential, both internally with colleagues and externally during partner interactions. The technician may also perform residential in-home customer installation work as needed and will participate in on-call rotations, demonstrating an understanding of urgency and prioritization in their tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Supports Webpass network construction efforts, including installation of new equipment, maintenance of existing equipment, and related tasks.
  • Leverages foundational knowledge and core abilities necessary to complete basic network construction tasks, including working with twisted pair copper cabling and/or fiber optic cables, installing radio mounts, pointing microwave point-to-point radios, and upgrading existing equipment.
  • Exercises solid judgment and tests/troubleshoots connections with limited guidance, for both residential and commercial customers.
  • Collaborates with team to complete projects in a timely manner, with the highest level of workmanship possible.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively, both internally with colleagues and externally during partner interactions.
  • May perform residential in-home customer installation work as needed.
  • Participates in on-call rotations as needed; understands urgency and prioritization.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of network construction and/or fiber splicing experience installing, repairing, and testing fiber and twisted pair copper cabling.
  • 3+ years pulling, terminating, and testing twisted pair copper cabling and fiber optics in residential and commercial environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting Ethernet network issues related to routers, switches, and hubs.
  • Experience with rack and stack work, assembling server racks, telecom closet work, and patch panels.
  • Ability to terminate fiber optic cable utilizing a variety of connectors; experience using fusion splicers.
  • Understanding of Copper BICSI 1, and Fiber 1.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant experience in data center construction/layout.
  • Experience with fiber splicing and troubleshooting.
