About the position

The Data Center Fiber Technician role involves managing the installation and maintenance of fiber optic systems within a data center environment. The position requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting and ensuring optimal performance of fiber optic systems, while also adhering to safety protocols. This is an in-person role based in Memphis, TN, with opportunities for professional growth in a dynamic tech environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of data center installation projects under the guidance of the Foreman Supervisor, Project Manager, and Superintendent.
  • Ensure a safe and productive work environment.
  • Develop sensor indicators and conduct timely inspections to prevent destabilization of fiber optic systems.
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, repair, and install fiber optic systems to ensure proper functionality.
  • Examine and replace faulty and/or old fiber optic cables.
  • Organize scheduled maintenance routines for fiber optic systems.
  • Perform fiber splicing and rectify problem areas in fiber optics.
  • Monitor and keep track of the signal strength of different devices.
  • Formulate and maintain system records and designs.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of direct data center experience installing and routing optical fiber in large scale Tier 3 or 4 facilities as a commercial fiber optic technician.
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • Certification in fiber optics and/or cable installation.
  • Extensive experience in fiber splicing.
  • Technical knowledge of communication networks.
  • Knowledgeable of computers and associated electronic systems.
  • Knowledgeable of different fiber types.
  • Experience installing, certifying, and troubleshooting fiber in hyperscale data center environments.
  • Experience installing structured cabling.
  • Highly proficient using a light meter, OTDR, OPMs, fiber certifier, loopback, and optical probes.
  • Ability to understand different types of switches and port identifications.
  • Ability to properly clean fiber and validate cleanliness.
