About the position

The Data Center Field Support Technician role at Cognizant involves providing operational and technical support within a data center environment. The technician will be responsible for overseeing the infrastructure systems that support IT operations, ensuring the cleanliness and orderliness of IT spaces, and managing local IT assets. This position requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating with local and remote support teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and technical support in the data center environment.
  • Oversee the infrastructure systems including power, cooling, security, and fire protection.
  • Manage server and network systems installation, operation, and maintenance practices.
  • Ensure IT process consistency by local resources, vendors, and technicians in IT spaces.
  • Perform incident response, root cause analysis, and reporting for CAPA resolutions.
  • Manage local IT asset identification, inventory, documentation, and management processes.
  • Create and modify IT space room and rack diagrams using Visio or other CAD applications.
  • Communicate effectively with local and remote support teams.

Requirements

  • Previous data center or computer room operational and technical experience.
  • Working knowledge of data center facilities infrastructure systems.
  • Experience with server and network systems installation and maintenance.
  • Understanding of network environments and topologies.
  • Knowledge of IT equipment inter-connectivity.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to follow up promptly.
  • Ability to communicate using various methods with support teams.
  • Knowledge of IT, Networking, and Data Center infrastructure support terminology.
  • Experience with incident response and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with task ticketing system management.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum 5 years of data center experience.
  • College degree in Computer Science or similar field.
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or equivalent certification.
  • Data Center operational or technical certifications.
  • Network operational or technical certifications.
