About the position

The Data Center Hardware Technician will play a crucial role in supporting a large Data Center project for the FBI, focusing on the installation and maintenance of various IT hardware devices and cabling in a data center environment. This position requires intermediate knowledge of data center hardware and systems, ensuring that installations meet manufacturer specifications and operational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate Data Center infrastructure requirements and coordinate necessary resources for equipment installation.
  • Coordinate facilities resources such as electric and cooling for specialized equipment.
  • Provision cabling, floor cut outs, and mounting hardware for IT devices and systems.
  • Perform end-to-end installation of patch cables and management cabling.
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance and perform replacements of failed components in collaboration with systems engineers.
  • Conduct analysis related to the design, development, and implementation of hardware for production.
  • Perform stress and performance tests on computer hardware.
  • Develop, test, and monitor strategies for computer hardware devices and systems.
  • Follow labeling standards and maintain configuration changes and inventory information.
  • Adhere to data center safety rules and installation standards.
  • Perform un-crating and unboxing of equipment and manage refuse removal in the data center.
  • Generate and interpret wiring and cabling diagrams in Visio and CADD.
  • Monitor data center IT and environmental systems for failures and coordinate repairs.
  • Assist in developing and managing a tracking database for hardware inventory control.
  • Manage and maintain expendable and non-expendable parts and tools inventory.
  • Perform IT and system hardware maintenance and equipment replacement services as needed.
  • Continuously assess vendor/OEM hardware maintenance activities and trends.
  • Perform copper and fiber communications cable installations and terminations.
  • Provide timely problem resolution and document projects using MS Visio.
  • Provide escort services for personnel requiring access to the data center.
  • Transition knowledge to Government staff through training and assistance.

Requirements

  • Top Secret clearance required.
  • Minimum of three years of data center hardware and cable installation experience.
  • Knowledge of National Standards for Data Center IT infrastructure including BICSI and TIA standards.
  • BICSI Installer 2 certification for both Copper and Fiber required.
  • CompTIA A+ certification required.

Nice-to-haves

  • An associate degree or vocational degree in Information Technology Systems is preferred.
