About the position

As a Data Center Infrastructure Operations Network Engineer at Cole Engineering Services, Inc., you will play a crucial role as a technical team member responsible for maintaining the platform that supports our end users. This position requires a strong focus on technical aspects including VMware, Micro-Services, Networking, and Security Services, ensuring continuity of operations. You will be expected to build a relationship of trust with customers and collaborate effectively with existing technical staff. Your responsibilities will include automating, collecting, processing, and presenting system performance metrics to demonstrate improvements or identify degradation over time. You will also balance hybrid cloud distribution between private corporate infrastructure and public clouds, working as part of a fast-moving, diverse team across multiple projects simultaneously. In this role, you will contribute to a high-performing team operating within an Agile development framework, providing insights into taskings to both the team and customers through tools like Jira and Confluence. While you do not need to be an expert in all areas, a solid understanding of the technologies involved is essential. You will be expected to manage Linux systems, implement and maintain physical networking devices, and work with VMware NSX-based Software Defined Networking (SDN). Familiarity with Kubernetes and micro-service applications is also required. As a self-starter in a fast-paced environment, you will collaborate with a multi-faceted technical team, ensuring system stability, accessibility, and proper configuration of assigned systems. Additionally, you will proactively identify and resolve network issues, document performance records, and maintain security management processes. Your ability to communicate effectively and interact with various stakeholders will be key to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and ensure continuity of operations for the platform supporting end users.
  • Automate, collect, process, and present system performance metrics.
  • Balance hybrid cloud distribution between private and public clouds.
  • Work as part of a diverse team across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Contribute to Agile development and execution, providing insights via Jira and Confluence.
  • Manage Linux system operations and Red Hat enterprise services.
  • Implement, operate, and maintain physical switches, routers, IPS, and IDS devices.
  • Implement, operate, and maintain VMware NSX-based SDN.
  • Analyze real-world problems and implement solutions according to guidelines and best practices.
  • Document and present performance records and results.
  • Review and update information security management system processes and procedures.

Requirements

  • Associates or bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as computer science or information technology.
  • Ten years of work experience preferred.
  • Security+ Certification, or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience with Linux system management and Red Hat enterprise services.
  • Ability to implement and maintain physical networking devices.
  • Experience with VMware NSX and SDN technologies.
  • Understanding of Kubernetes and micro-service applications.
  • Ability to author and maintain scripts in a managed Git repository.
  • Strong problem-solving skills involving integrated software and hardware platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Ansible or similar infrastructure automation tools.
  • Ability to automate tasks and administration through scripting.
  • Knowledge of the DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) and NIST guidelines.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) platforms such as Terraform.
