About the position

The Data Center IT Infrastructure Technician at NTT DATA plays a crucial role in supporting client requests within the data center environment. This position is responsible for addressing customer inquiries through support tickets from inception to resolution, requiring minimal supervision. The technician will troubleshoot hardware issues related to servers, network devices, cabling, and power connectivity. Key responsibilities include racking and stacking equipment, installing Power Distribution Units (PDUs), creating and managing documentation, and providing help desk support, which may involve participating in a phone queue, performing desktop support, and deploying hardware such as laptops and VoIP phones. In this role, the technician will unbox, inventory, and install client hardware, including servers, storage, and network devices into client racks. They will manage assets for clients, perform inventory audits, and coordinate technical tasks with internal groups to ensure requests are resolved efficiently. The technician will also be responsible for the installation of cabling and cable organization according to NTT or client standards, troubleshooting enterprise-level hardware, and performing replacements of components within servers and network devices. Additionally, they will commission and decommission hardware, install cross connects, and work with Telco carriers to troubleshoot circuits. The technician will adhere to Change Control Processes and Standards, provide corporate desktop support services, and act as a communication coordinator during critical incidents. Regular communication with employees, contractors, and clients is essential, as is the ability to process all tickets within SLA guidelines. This position requires a strong understanding of data center processes, hardware, and networking components, along with excellent troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.

Responsibilities

  • Unbox, inventory, and install client hardware such as server, storage, and network devices into client racks.
  • Manage assets for clients, including performing inventory audits and receiving and shipping equipment.
  • Coordinate technical tasks with internal groups and manage requests to resolution.
  • Install cabling and organize cables per NTT or client standards, including labeling.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose enterprise-level hardware issues.
  • Replace DIMMs, hard drives, power supplies, and other components within server, storage, and network devices.
  • Commission and decommission hardware as needed.
  • Install cross connects and troubleshoot circuits with Telco carriers.
  • Install and troubleshoot CAT 5E, CAT6, single mode and multi-mode patch cables.
  • Install data center infrastructure materials including racks, cabinets, and cable management systems.
  • Perform installation and maintenance on Power Distribution Units within client enclosures.
  • Work in a standard ticketing system, providing clear and timely customer communications.
  • Communicate regularly with employees, contractors, and clients via phone, email, or ticketing system.
  • Adhere to Change Control Processes and Standards.
  • Provide corporate desktop support services including laptop imaging and printer support.
  • Act as communication coordinator during critical incidents.
  • Process all tickets within SLA guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years of data center environment or help desk experience is required.
  • CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent experience required.
  • Working knowledge of data center processes and design (power, cooling, redundancy).
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.
  • Strong understanding of servers, routers, network switches, and patch panels.
  • Proficiency with standard desktop PC tools and applications, such as MS Office and MS Outlook.
  • Experience with active directory, Office 365, and enterprise-level ticketing systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.

Nice-to-haves

  • CompTIA Network + and BICSI Installer 1 certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with cable management and knowledge of how to run fiber and copper in a data center.
  • Knowledge of copper and fiber cable testing equipment.
  • Experience with Data Center incident resolution, asset management, and logistics.
