About the position

The Data Center IT Lead Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, modification, and termination of various types of cabling within customer data centers. This role involves performing server installations, managing equipment, conducting advanced troubleshooting, and ensuring adherence to project commitments. The technician will also lead cage builds and troubleshoot security systems, while maintaining detailed records of work activities and managing day-to-day operations of technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Run fiber and coax cross connects and follow proper termination techniques per company established processes and procedures.
  • Perform installs, tests, and modifies cross connects and ensure proper dressing of coax, fiber, and twisted pair copper cross connects.
  • Deploy cabinet rack mount PDUs and install cable management systems including wire managers and patch panels.
  • Rack and stack customer equipment and install/test cross connect circuits.
  • Conduct carrier circuit maintenance and troubleshoot switched/multiplexed/media converted circuits.
  • Install circuits requiring advanced fiber terminations and conduct carrier circuit testing.
  • Work with customers to troubleshoot issues and perform basic configurations as needed.
  • Maintain detailed written records of all work activity and manage day-to-day operations of technicians.
  • Determine work priorities from the ticketing queue and ensure adherence to all commit times.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of related work experience with server builds in a production data center environment.
  • One or more relevant certifications preferred (e.g., Fluke CCTT Copper, Fluke CCTT Fiber, BICSI Level II).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs throughout the day.
  • Strong communication skills and a disciplined approach to managing task assignments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency with basic operations of a PC; proficient in MS Office and Outlook preferred.
  • Knowledge of cable limitations and ability to read installation drawings (Visio drawings/spreadsheets).
  • General knowledge of safe working practices.
