About the position

The Data Center Lead Smart Hands Technician will provide essential onsite support across two data centers, ensuring the proper installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware and network connectivity. This role is critical in managing equipment, cabling, and documentation while participating in an on-call rotation for after-hours support. The technician will work closely with remote administrators, facilities management, and other stakeholders to maintain operational efficiency and support project engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite support in the customer's two Data Centers.
  • Responsible for racking and stacking equipment, patch cabling, decommissioning equipment, equipment swaps, and disposal activities.
  • Support troubleshooting hardware issues with remote admins, facilities management, site security, vendor and customer escorts, inventory management, and project engagement as required.
  • Maintain network/rack diagrams.
  • Split time between two data centers.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with a BS/BA degree or 9+ years of hands-on experience in a datacenter environment in lieu of the degree.
  • Understand power redundancy, power usage, different styles of power cords, and amps needed per cabinet in a data center environment.
  • Experience with the installation of new data center racks and understanding of rack PDU's, cabling, and power requirements.
  • Rack and stack physical servers/network devices, fiber and copper patching, and cable management experience.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and network connectivity issues.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required agency clearance (Public Trust).

  • Data Center asset and inventory management experience.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills, customer service, and reliability as a team member.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing equipment, cabling, and documentation.
  • Use of ServiceNow as a ticketing and asset management system.
