About The Position

The Data Center Mechanical/Thermal Cooling Engineer at Google is responsible for designing, optimizing, and implementing cooling systems for data center facilities. This role focuses on ensuring efficient heat dissipation and temperature control within critical operating parameters, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate cooling solutions into the overall data center design and operations. The engineer will also maintain comprehensive documentation related to cooling infrastructure and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of critical environment cooling systems, specializing in data center solutions using thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles related to data center cooling technologies.
  • 5 years of experience in mechanical design and documentation using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks/Catia/Inventor) using detailed tolerance analysis and tolerance loop methodologies to ensure precise design and manufacturing.
  • 5 years of experience with HVAC design and analysis software tools to optimize cooling solutions for maximum efficiency and reliability.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in project management and coordination, with the ability to deliver cooling solutions on time and within budget.
  • Experience with high-density cooling solutions, including liquid cooling, evaporative cooling, and free-air cooling.
  • Experience in designing modular building scale assemblies with an understanding of mechanical tolerances and tolerance analysis.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices related to data center cooling.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles with expertise in the areas of design for medium-high volume production.
