About the position

SAIC is seeking two Data Center Network Administrators to support the US Army Corps of Engineers on the Revolutionary IT Services (USACE RITS) project. These positions are available in Ashburn, VA, and San Jose, CA, and will involve both remote work and on-site activities. The primary responsibility of the Data Center Network Administrator is to operate, optimize, and maintain the infrastructure within the data center environment, ensuring the availability, reliability, and scalability of the data center network. The role requires monitoring network and service performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing necessary moves, adds, and changes. Accurate documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and procedures is essential. The administrator will also provide on-call support and participate in an on-call rotation schedule. Responsibilities include rack/stack, cabling, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all IT equipment, tools, and consumables in the data center. Adhering to and enforcing data center best practices, such as cable management and airflow management, is crucial. The administrator will participate in project coordination meetings and communicate necessary information to update engineering and project management. Collaboration with facility managers to maintain and identify changes to electrical and mechanical systems affecting the data center space is also part of the role, focusing on availability, service delivery, and customer relationship management. Additionally, the administrator will manage and maintain servers (both physical and virtual), databases, appliances, services, and applications hosted at the data center that support network management.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, optimize, and maintain the infrastructure within the data center environment.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and procedures.

  • Responsible for rack/stack, cabling, maintenance and troubleshooting of all IT equipment, tools and consumables in the data center.
  • Adhere and enforce data center best practices such as cable management, airflow management, labeling end to end communication and power cables in accordance with data center standards.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings and communicate necessary information needed to update engineering and project management.
  • Work with facility managers to maintain and identify changes to electrical and mechanical systems that affect the assigned data center space.
  • Manage and maintain servers (physical/VM), databases, appliances, services, and applications hosted at the datacenter that support network management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years or more of related experience; additional experience accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Experience in a Data Center role involving infrastructure.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols and technologies, such as TCP/IP, VLAN, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and DNS.
  • Hands-on experience with network hardware, including switches, routers, load balancers, and firewalls.
  • Proficient in network monitoring and troubleshooting tools, such as Wireshark, SNMP, and packet analysis.
  • Familiarity with the use of DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and running checklists and remediation of any findings.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies, such as VMware or Hyper-V, and experience with SDN/NFV concepts is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the Command Line Interface (CLI) used by Cisco devices.

  • Experience with SDN/NFV concepts is a plus.
