About the position

The Data Center Operations Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting customer activities by managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting technical issues within the data center. This position involves working with server hardware, networking equipment, and Linux systems to ensure operational efficiency and exceptional customer service. The engineer will also participate in disaster recovery drills and provide necessary access to personnel for maintenance and inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, maintain, troubleshoot and resolve critical technical issues within the datacenter.
  • Install and maintain data center server hardware, including storage blocks, servers, patch panels, switches, routers, and other large scale networking gear.
  • Utilize Linux command line for troubleshooting and configuration tasks.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to respond to issues during off hours.
  • Engage in disaster recovery mock drills and procedures.
  • Provide cleared escort to personnel needing access for maintenance and inspections.
  • Handle light shipping and receiving tasks.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of related experience in data center operations or a similar field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a closely related discipline.
  • 3 years of experience working with computer systems and networks, specifically with the Linux operating system.
  • Ability to perform physical work, including lifting servers and network switches.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with field-based work in Points of Presence (POPs) and datacenters.
  • Experience in troubleshooting operating systems, network equipment, and software.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware or network-related issues using Linux-based tools.
