About the position

The Data Center Operations Specialist at Midco is responsible for ensuring the efficient and highly available operation of the business data centers. This role involves coordinating day-to-day operational activities, managing data center systems, and maintaining communication with internal and external customers regarding data center operations. The specialist will implement best practices, perform system administration tasks, and oversee the maintenance and development of data center facilities to align with organizational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all colocation data center facilities systems.
  • Schedule and manage preventative maintenance of data center equipment.
  • Establish data center operations based on tier II and tier III standards.
  • Perform daily inspections of equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain proper records of work operations, logs, and events for detailed reporting to management.
  • Create and provide training on data center processes and procedures.
  • Perform system administration tasks to keep facilities equipment up to date.
  • Conduct routine backups of critical facilities equipment and devices.
  • Develop and maintain standards, policies, and procedures for systems, security, emergency, and disaster.
  • Oversee structured cabling during the installation of new equipment.
  • Repair damaged or faulty facilities equipment.
  • Manage asset for data center hardware, software, and equipment.
  • Continuously monitor equipment for proper operation.
  • Configure networking/server equipment, low voltage cabling, power distribution, and troubleshoot systems.
  • Perform scheduled equipment testing.
  • Work with customers for access, installation, and Smart Hands needs.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Datacenter Systems Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of relatable IT experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Data center experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and customer service orientation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of physical security standards for tier II and tier III data center applications.
  • Experience with data center design/build projects.
