AMER Edge Data Center Operations team is looking to hire an experienced and highly motivated individual to provide local and remote support for its Edge & PoP (Point of Presence) Data Centers in the North America region. As an Edge Data Center Operations (DCO) technician at Amazon you will help build and maintain a world-leading cloud computing infrastructure across multiple data centers in the North America region.

Responsibilities

  • Triaging emergent data center issues using a ticketing system.
  • Troubleshooting & configuring network and server hardware.
  • Coordinating remote hands support with colocation providers.
  • Working with cross-functional teams - both internal and external.
  • Leading network & server scaling projects to expand AWS Edge data center infrastructure.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work outside of standard business hours, including nights and weekends, in support of a follow-the-sun on-call rotation and other time-sensitive escalations.
  • Working with capacity teams to expand the AWS network.
  • Resolving data center facility issues.
  • Performing site audits to ensure safety and quality meets standards.
  • Driving the team to improve operational efficiency through process improvement initiatives.
  • Producing reports to management on metrics and project status.
  • Server Decommissioning activities.
  • Media Destruction.
  • Travel 50-60% of the time to AMER Edge/Burrow locations to support Decom activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) in information technology or computer science or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of Computer Hardware, including troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • 1+ years of Linux Operating Systems experience, Computer Networking experience, and with Storage Devices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a colocation data center facility.
  • Understanding of distributed and service-oriented architectures.
  • Advanced understanding of fiber optic & copper cabling standards, testing equipment & troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Exceptional ability to diagnose and troubleshoot network device and link issues (Layer 1 & 2).
  • Excellent knowledge of server hardware and components. Familiarity with TCP/IP networks.
