About the position

The Data Center Product Engineer is responsible for maintaining the reliability and efficiency of Allstate's data centers. This entry-level position involves hardware installation, troubleshooting, and collaboration with various teams to innovate solutions and ensure optimal data center operations. The role requires adherence to industry best practices and involves significant physical activity, including standing, walking, and lifting.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain enterprise-grade servers, storage systems, and network hardware.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and cabling issues in coordination with the Network Operations Center.
  • Execute tasks, report hardware issues, and document progress using ticketing software.
  • Communicate shift turnover with coworkers to ensure continuity through the install and repair process.
  • Use cable diagnostic equipment to test, identify, and correct issues with fiber optic and copper network cables.
  • Provide vendor escorts and supervision for repairs, installations, move/add/change.
  • Continuously monitor data center infrastructure with walkthroughs and utilizing software tools available.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of standard operating procedures and inventory records.
  • Implement and uphold industry-standard best practices for data center operation including physical security measures and environmental controls.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to support large-scale systems upgrades, migrations, and deployments.
  • Assist in capacity planning and scalability assessments to meet evolving business requirements.
  • Ensure 24/7 support by arranging shift coverage with teammates for PTO and Holidays.
  • Promptly respond to hotline phone while onsite for any support calls and emergency incidents.

Requirements

  • Entry-level experience in data center operations or related field.
  • Familiarity with hardware installation and troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of network systems and cabling.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ticketing software for task management.
