About the position

As an Amazon Field Engineer, you will provide full life-cycle support to AWS Data Centers, from design inception through site improvement and maintenance. This role involves being the primary engineering resource for your region, offering technical advice and engaging with diverse teams to ensure the operational efficiency and safety of data centers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design and equipment submittal review for new Data Centers in your region.
  • Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
  • Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training and complex operating procedure reviews.
  • Mentor and train customers and partner engineers in fire protection principles.
  • Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions.
  • Interface with internal teams to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability.
  • Develop innovative solutions for AWS's data centers.
  • Work on concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
  • Initiate and lead engineering audits including on-site visits within Amazon's data centers.
  • Act as resident engineer during new construction projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in fire protection engineering or a related field with at least 5 years of additional qualifying experience.
  • Cumulative 5+ years of experience in engineering or the construction industry related to fire protection.
  • Experience applying local codes, NFPA standards, ICC requirements, and other fire protection industry standards.
  • Experience with design review processes and submittal review.
  • Ability to read and understand construction documents for all trades.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience authoring white papers, technical documentation, and training materials.
  • Experience directly related to construction of data centers or large-scale mechanical and power systems.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or developing junior engineers.
  • Experience as a fire marshal, fire plans examiner, or fire inspector.
  • Licensed Fire Protection Engineer.
  • Strong knowledge of ICC Codes and NFPA Standards.
  • Experience with performance-based alternatives to prescriptive fire protection design.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems commissioning.
  • Strong business analytics skills.
