About the position

Randstad Digital is responsible for the entire day-to-day management of state-of-the-art data center operations throughout the United States for a multinational banking and financial services holding company. This data center is the largest of its kind in the United States, with total worldwide assets exceeding US$2 trillion. The world-class data center is seeking an experienced Data Center Technician for a long-term project role. This position is onsite and involves working in shifts, either the AM Shift (12AM-12PM) or PM Shift (12PM-12AM), following a rotating schedule of 3,2,2,3. The role offers immediate consideration for candidates who send their resumes promptly. As a Data Center Site Engineer, you will engage in physical and hands-on work, undergoing complex makeovers within the data center. The creative scheduling allows for extra days off compared to a normal five-day workweek, providing opportunities for growth and advancement. Each day presents a unique workload, ensuring that no two days are the same. Basic responsibilities include rack and stack of enterprise-class technology, running, tracing, dressing, and testing copper and fiber cables from patch panels to devices, and troubleshooting hardware connectivity issues. You will also be responsible for the commissioning and decommissioning of hardware, performing component replacements, and adhering strictly to change control processes.

Responsibilities

  • Rack and stack enterprise class technology (network, storage and enterprise servers).
  • Run, trace, dress, and test copper and fiber cables from patch panel to device.
  • Familiarity with patch panels.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware/connectivity issues.
  • Commission and decommission hardware.
  • Perform component replacements (DIMMs, hard drives, power supplies).
  • Adhere to change control processes.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working in a complex high availability data center environment providing layer one hardware installation, ongoing maintenance, problem identification, and incident resolution.
  • Strong working knowledge of data center processes and design.
  • Hands-on expertise of midrange systems in large scale (100+ servers) environments - IBM, HP, Oracle, & Dell server hardware.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.
  • Ability to document complex problem resolution summaries and repetitive tasks interfaces through an online ticketing system.
  • Understanding of switch/port configurations.
  • Strong cable management skills and experience managing fiber & copper in a data center environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications: A+, Server+, or Network+
  • Technical writing and documentation skills are preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
