About the position

The Data Center Storage Engineer L2 role at Milestone involves managing hardware deployment and repair operations within the data center. This position requires strong communication and problem-solving skills, as well as technical expertise to ensure the server fleet operates efficiently. The engineer will work closely with the data center operations team to troubleshoot hardware issues, validate repairs, and maintain technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Jira ticket queue and troubleshoot hardware failure issues.
  • Apply appropriate repair steps and validate hardware for production fleet.
  • Communicate extensively with data center operations teams to resolve hardware issues.
  • Deploy, troubleshoot, and repair server fleet to ensure maximum capacity.
  • Proactively monitor data storage utilization, I/O capacities, and alerts.
  • Create and maintain monitors for existing data stores.
  • Participate in business hours on-call for storage-related alerts and escalations.
  • Perform code reviews for bugs and identify code-related problems in automated validation processes.
  • Maintain and contribute to technical documentation, troubleshooting manuals, and run books.
  • Provide mentoring and training to DC Operations teams.

Requirements

  • Computer Science or Computer Hardware Engineering education, or a minimum of 3 years in the industry.
  • Ability to explain complicated hardware issues and configurations.
  • Experience scripting with Python or Ansible programming.
  • Familiarity with automated booting in a Linux environment.
  • Strong hands-on working knowledge of Linux and Windows administration.
  • Understanding of networking, storage, and server hardware infrastructure.
  • Familiar experience with hardware from vendors like Hitachi, NetApp, Pure Storage, Arista Cisco, Brocade, and Supermicro.
  • Proven experience as a Linux Sysadmin and in a Data Center.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized self-starter.
  • Ability to take ownership of hardware and software issues and follow them to resolution.
  • Able to safely lift and move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Competent knowledge of Pure Storage products such as Flash Array and Flash Blade.
