About The Position

The Data Center Switchgear and Generator Technician is responsible for managing the installation, start-up, and commissioning of critical power systems, including backup power generation and ancillary equipment. This role requires collaboration with engineering and sales teams, as well as performing diagnostic and repair procedures on various systems. The technician will also be involved in scheduled maintenance and coordination with service suppliers and electrical contractors, ensuring the smooth operation of power systems in data centers.

Requirements

  • Some college education or technical school experience is a plus.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the field of power generators, compressors, and load banks.
  • Experience with diesel generators to 2800KW, 13.8kV.
  • Experience with generator paralleling/utility switchgear at 13.8kV level.
  • Solid understanding of basic generator and electrical distribution principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong proficiencies with Microsoft Office and Adobe.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel inside and outside of the country.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of critical power systems installation, start-up, and commissioning.
  • Perform diagnostic and repair procedures on all systems including PLCs, AC/DC, and switchgear.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on electric power generation equipment including transfer switches and switchgear.
  • Coordinate with partnered service suppliers, specifically engine manufacturers.
  • Oversee correction of issues arising from commissioning.
  • Learn data center structured cabling solutions, Category 6 and pre-terminated fiber optic installations.
  • Update and maintain Excel spreadsheets for cross-connect assignments for all cabling infrastructure, as well as inventory management.
  • Familiarity with protective relay functionality and HRG systems.
  • Complete any other tasks as assigned by Manager, Engineer, or Sales.
