About the position

The Data Center Systems Architect role at Google focuses on designing and integrating sustainable data center systems. This position is pivotal in developing architectures that enhance energy efficiency and reduce lifecycle carbon emissions, aligning with Google's sustainability goals. The architect will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement innovative solutions that optimize data center operations while ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Enable new infrastructure technology and IT technology insertion into a modular data center portfolio targeted at improving development and deployment velocity.
  • Develop and implement data center designs that prioritize energy efficiency, minimize environmental impact and align with Google's sustainability goals.
  • Ensure a sustainability focus by serving as the systems architecture point of contact with cross-functional sustainability teams to evaluate opportunities for DC roadmaps and design integration.
  • Lead investigations and develop concepts by driving physical design and analytical studies to inform systems sizing and carbon reduction optimizations.
  • Drive development of solutions with internal and external architectural/engineering (A&E) partners.
  • Coordinate work with outside design consultants on new DC designs, as design progresses from schematic layout through construction document.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related fields, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in the design of Data Center Systems Engineering, system architecture, design and integration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience coordinating work with outside design consultants on new Data Center designs from concept studies to construction deliverables.
  • Experience with ideation and engineering development of sustainability related technologies for energy efficiency improvement (Scope 2) and embodied emission reduction in hardware (Scope 3).
  • Experience in driving design downselects via physical design and analytical trade-off studies.
  • Experience with emissions accounting, reporting, auditing and standards interpretation.
  • Deep understanding of data center mechanical and electrical infrastructure subsystems.
