About the position

Royal Communications Consultants Inc. is seeking skilled Data Center Technicians to provide essential connectivity and hardware support for the Installation, Move, Add, Change, and Decommissioning (IMACD) processes in a new data center. The role involves a variety of tasks including voice and data cabling, as well as the rack and stack of data center hardware. Technicians will be responsible for performing all types of patching, break-fix activities, circuit provisioning, and recovery, as well as installing switches and managing the disconnect/reconnect of desktop and networking equipment. The position requires a hands-on approach to ensure the successful build-out of the data center, with a focus on maintaining high standards of connectivity and hardware functionality. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and the position is based onsite in Secaucus, NJ. Technicians will be expected to audit and document existing cabling installations and desktop configurations, compile patching schedules, and utilize cable management software for effective planning. Responsibilities also include powering down and disconnecting desktop equipment, carrying out data wiping activities, and performing testing and fault finding on both copper and fiber cabling. The role requires a thorough understanding of voice and data cabling environments, as well as practical experience with fiber and copper cabling techniques. In addition to cabling tasks, technicians will be involved in installing and testing various telephone handsets, including analog, digital, and VOIP systems, and will provide necessary headset support. Building, racking, and stacking network and server hardware in data center halls, along with ensuring proper connectivity, are also key responsibilities. The role may involve performing break-fix activities on network hardware, such as replacing power supplies and other components as needed. Responsibilities

  • Audit and document existing cabling installations.
  • Audit and document desktop configuration, including patching and power, for existing and proposed user locations.
  • Compile patching schedules as required.
  • Utilize Cable Management Software as required for patching planning.
  • Power down and disconnect all desktop equipment including any peripherals ensuring all identified and labeled correctly ready for reconnection.
  • IMAC-D of all desktop equipment including any peripherals.
  • Carry out Data Wiping activities by use of Software tools.
  • Carry out all types of patching including voice & data, copper & fibre.
  • Carry out testing and fault finding on Copper and Fibre Cabling.
  • Carry out all types of Copper Voice and Data terminations as required.
  • Carry out surveys and update drawings and schedules.
  • Install and test analog, digital and VOIP telephone handsets and provide headset support as required.
  • Build, Rack and Stack Network and Server hardware in Data Centre Halls and provide connectivity.
  • Perform Network Hardware break-fix activities e.g. replacing power supplies, modules, fans etc.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a Voice and Data Cabling environment.
  • Experience in Moves, Adds, and Changes (MAC) environments.
  • Thorough understanding and practical experience of fibre and copper voice and data cabling including terminating, test equipment, test parameters, and test techniques.
  • Knowledge of Rack and Stack of Server Hardware and Rack and Stack Systems.
  • Good knowledge of Service Now (and other Process and Asset Management Tools).
  • Good knowledge of Server Patching.
  • Knowledge of LAN / WAN and Active devices.
