About the position

The Data Center Tech IT Decommission role at Royal Communications Consultants Inc involves managing the physical decommissioning process of IT hardware in a data center environment. This position is responsible for ensuring that all equipment is properly un-racked, moved, and documented, while adhering to company practices and coordinating with vendors for equipment disposal.

Responsibilities

• Administer end-to-end hardware physical decommission process
• Un-rack the kit from the rack
• Remove rails, patch, and power cords connected to the kit
• Move the kit from data center to build/office/storeroom
• Place the kit on pallet and shrink wrap
• Update necessary tools (Nlyte, D1) and inventory reports
• Remove the HDDs from the equipment and update media related tools/reports, storing them in secure bins onsite
• Maintain decommission kit inventory and share the report
• Coordinate deliveries and removal of IT equipment from data centers and IDF/MDFs as informed
• Maintain and provide physical HDD media inventory reporting and reconciliation
• Collate all IT equipment for disposal or pickup by HPFS or any other vendor
• Ensure the right IT equipment is collected by vendors during pickups
• Provide DC escort and guidance to vendor for building access clearance during equipment pickup
• Oversee the activity to ensure all DC practices are adhered to
• Act as point of contact for disposal pick-ups for other IT equipment as needed

Requirements

• Experience in data center operations and IT equipment handling
• Familiarity with inventory management tools such as Nlyte and D1
• Ability to physically handle and move IT equipment
• Strong organizational skills for maintaining inventory reports
• Excellent communication skills for coordinating with vendors and team members

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of IT equipment disposal regulations
• Experience with hardware decommissioning processes
