About the position

The Data Center Tech L1 position involves on-site troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of Dell and IBM servers. The role is crucial for ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance of server systems, supporting the IT infrastructure of clients. This position requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a strong focus on customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Travel the given field (Ashburn and 90 mins in any direction)
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair Dell and IBM servers and associated hardware.
  • Perform hardware replacements and part swaps, including motherboards, hard drives, memory, power supplies, and other components, often without supervision.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and system upgrades to ensure server performance and reliability.
  • Respond promptly to service requests and ensure timely resolution of issues to minimize downtime.
  • Self-diagnose hardware issues and take corrective actions to resolve them effectively.
  • Collaborate with IT support teams to identify and resolve server-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of service activities, including work orders, repair logs, and inventory management.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to clients, ensuring their understanding of server issues and solutions.
  • Adhere to company and industry standards, including ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protocols.
  • Stay updated on the latest Dell and IBM server technologies and best practices.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience in server maintenance and repair, specifically with Dell and IBM hardware.
  • Strong understanding of server architectures, RAID configurations, and network storage systems.
  • Proficient in diagnosing hardware issues and performing component-level repairs.
  • Experience in hands-on part swaps and repairs without supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple service requests efficiently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to client sites as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications in Dell and/or IBM server technologies (e.g., Dell EMC Certified Specialist, IBM Certified Specialist) preferred.
